How to: Add error bars to a data series in Excel chart.
Solution:
Select the data series with which error bars are to be associated, select 'Error Bars...' from the 'Insert' menu, and select the type of error bars and the error amount to display.
1) Select the desired chart:
a) If the chart is embedded on the worksheet, double-click on the chart. (A striped border with handles appears around the chart.)
b) If the chart is on a separate chart sheet, click the tab for the chart sheet.
2) Select the data series with which error bars are to be associated.
3) Select the 'Insert' menu and select 'Error Bars...'. (The Error Bars dialog box appears.)

NOTE: The 'Error Bars...' command can be selected only after the chart and the data series are selected.
4) Click 'Y Error Bars' tab.
5) Select the type of error bars from the 'Display' group.
6) Select the type of error amount for calculation of error bars from the 'Error Amount' group.
NOTE: Different error amounts for plus and minus or different error amounts for each data point can be displayed using the 'Custom' error amounts.
7) Click 'OK'.
